This program helps parents develop the skills they need to raise happy, healthy and resilient children.
We welcome families from all backgrounds, especially those with young children.
Our Children and Parenting programs can help families in different ways.
Home visits and community outreach: CatholicCare NT can provide “in home” parenting support and education. We work with you to identify issues that could impact your children or family. We can provide support and referrals to help you with these issues before they escalate. Where available, we can also help transport you and your family to activities, playgroups and appointments.
Parent education: Our parenting education groups focus on child development. They help to build parenting skills and knowledge. For more information on parenting education and groups click here.
Peer support groups: Peer support groups let you link you in with other families in the same stage of life. These peer supports include groups for mothers and babies, primary school parents and single fathers.
Children and youth counselling: Counselling is available for children, young people and families. These sessions are tailored to your needs. For more information on counselling click here.

We have Children’s Contact Centres in Darwin and Alice Springs. They are safe and neutral spaces for supervised contact visits and/or family changeovers. This gives children the chance to have meaningful relationships with their parents and other significant people in their lives.
We help separated families where there is conflict.
Changeovers: Our centres allow parents to drop off and pick up their children while avoiding contact with the other parent.
Supervised visits: Our centres allow parents to spend quality time with their children. These visits are supervised by our workers.
Families are usually referred to us by the family court.
People can refer themselves to this program. As can other support services and lawyers.
This is a sliding scale of fees. Fees can be waived in cases of financial hardship.

Youth programs provide support for at-risk young people and promote social and emotional wellbeing
We know that parenting can be hard and challenging. That’s why we run programs to help you develop skills to raise happy, healthy and resilient children.
Our programs help parents and families with babies and children in school.
We run different types of groups and programs to help parents in different stages of life. They focus on different areas of child development and parenting skills.
Here are some of the programs we run:
Tuning into Kids: Tuning into Kids is an emotion-focused parenting program. It provides parents and carers with skills to ‘tune in to’ their child’s emotions, while managing their own.
Circles of Security: This program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
Bringing up Great Kids: The more we understand our children the more we can help and support them. One of the ways we can do this is to think about memories of our own childhood and imagine the world from a child’s point of view.
123 Magic: This program is based on establishing the role of parenting consisting of three tasks – working with behaviours that are based on communication, encouraging good behaviours and strengthening the parent-child relationship.

School can be both exciting and overwhelming for students. Our school counselling program supports the growth and development of children.
We have school counsellors in our partner primary and secondary Catholic schools across Darwin, Katherine and Santa Teresa. Counselling and groupwork is available to the students at these schools.
Each school we work with is different, in terms of what works best for the school and for the students. Our school counsellors work with school principals and staff to ensure we work together as a wellbeing team.
This is a free service for students as the Catholic Education Office pays CatholicCare NT to deliver this service.

We can help you address mental health concerns, build resilience and strengthen relationships
Sometimes families break up, and this can be traumatic for children and young people. This program helps children and young people deal with issues that come from a family breakdown.
We help children and young people that are affected by a family break-up and difficult family relationships.
We help children and young people through:
• counselling to help address emotional challenges and build self confidence
• group work to build social skills and feel ‘normal’ despite family breakdown
• making sure all members of the family receive the help they need
• helping children make decisions about things that impact them.
A sliding fee scale applies. Fees can be waived where financial hardship.
