10/06/2015
CatholicCare NT’s new Schmidt Street office was officially opened on Wednesday 10 June, 2015 with an Aboriginal smoking ceremony by traditional Warrumungu women and a blessing by the Bishop of Diocese of Darwin Most Rev Eugene Hurley, DD.
In 2013, CatholicCare NT was awarded funding to establish the Tennant Creek Family Support Centre to provide culturally responsive support to children and families living in Tennant Creek.
The NT Government provided $700,000 funding for the operation and construction of the facility in conjunction with CatholiCare NT contributing $1.5 million of its own funding.
Director CatholicCare NT Jayne Lloyd said a central service delivery model means that we can really focus on supporting parents and families, especially during early childhood years.
“The Centre will operate as a single facility delivering a range of services, including parent education, family support, mental health and money management.
“The Centre is culturally appropriate with designated outdoor spaces to work with clients,” she said.
