NDIS Tiwi participants speak with ABC TV Stateline - CatholicCare NT

The Tiwi Island NDIS team have been busy filming with ABC TV Stateline on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th July. ABC Stateline is doing a story about how NDIS can work despite the challenges especially in remote and very remote regions. CatholicCare NT NDIS participants that attend the NDIS Hub on Tiwi were interviewed and shared how the support and services has made a different to their lives. The NDIS participants were very open when discussing their personal stories.

Our local NDIS Support Workers also had an opportunity to meet and be filmed by the ABC crew. They discussed how having this service place based helps support participants in a culturally supportive and safe way.

Chrissy our NDIS Manager then was interviewed and talked about how the NDIS Hub and supports have been Community Lead and Participant Driven. She spoke about the difference it makes to having NDIS support place based, and not fly in fly out, and how alternative commissioning could ensure this model is sustainable.

The ABC Stateline segment is scheduled to be broadcast in September 2024 across TV, radio, and social media platforms. We eagerly anticipate sharing the story with everyone once it airs.
