Eleven-year-old Demi Quirk is one of life’s little helpers. She recently lent a hand at our soup kitchen in Katherine.
Here’s a letter she wrote to Donna Fraser, Manager Money Management Services.
“I was excited when you said that I could help, I got up really early and showered and dressed, I waited a while for you to pick me up to go to town.
“When we got to the office we had lots to do.
“We helped the homeless people tidy up the lawn with plastic bags, made cold water, and then went to the hospital to collect the soup.
“We gave soup to lots of people, you said that they were homeless and had no home that was really sad.
“I met lots of people, Eric and Mr Mitchel, he was sick so you called the ambulance to help him, two ladies came to help him.
“I met a new friend Ralph, he has no arms or legs and was hungry so I helped him eat his soup. I also helped fill his water bag for him with cold water, he is really nice.
“I think that the people don’t have anyone to be kind to them. I liked doing the soup kitchen, I made friends.
“I hope I can come back and do the soup kitchen again in the holidays with you and Hilda because it’s fun.
“I will bring a photo of my horse to show Ralph next time because he likes my horse too.”
