This week 13 participants from the Thamarrurr Youth Indigenous Corporation graduated from CatholicCare NT’s 6 Week Money Workshop, Ku Palyirr Narla (Big Money).
Over 6 weeks participants attended the CatholicCare NT office to learn about needs and wants, how to cook healthy and affordable meals, banking, debts, shopping, budgeting and saving.
The feedback from community members was overwhelmingly positive and this was evidenced by attendance rates of 100% at 5 out of 6 sessions.
All participants enjoyed the graduation ceremony where they were presented with a certificate, cook book and electric fry pan for healthy home cooking.
Today participants eagerly shared feedback about the workshop and what they enjoyed most:
‘It was fun doing the workshop’
‘I enjoy the cooking and also the game of banking’
‘I enjoy cooking the most and baking cakes and budgeting and saving’
Majella Dungul said ‘I enjoyed cooking the cupcakes, the game of banking and also the crocodile and lily pad game’.
Ku Palyirr Narla (Big Money) will continue to run throughout the year and we are currently taking names for the next round of workshops commencing on Thursday 15th April 2021. Community members can pop into the Wadeye CatholicCare NT office any time to register or call 08 8978 2515. Sessions fill up fast and we have a cap of 10 per group so get in quickly.
A big thank you goes out to Vanessa Iacono, FWC Case Manager for designing and delivering an engaging and fun workshop helping people to manage their money well. We would also like to acknowledge Dee Love who put her heart and soul into helping Vanessa organise, prepare and support participants to attend. Go Team Wadeye!!!
