Standing Together Against Violence: CatholicCare NT Launches “THE STAND” with NO MORE - CatholicCare NT

CatholicCare NT is proud to announce the launch of THE STAND – a bold new initiative under the NO MORE Program designed to strengthen our community’s response to domestic, family and sexual violence across the Northern Territory. It is a powerful, community-driven campaign honouring over 90 women lost to domestic and family violence (DFV) in the Northern Territory since 2000.

THE STAND builds on nearly 20 years of grassroots engagement through the NO MORE Campaign, founded by Dr Charlie King AM. Rooted in Aboriginal leadership and community wisdom, NO MORE has always stood for collective action to break the cycle of violence. THE STAND elevates this work by uniting sporting groups, businesses, workplaces, organisations and communities to take a public, active stance against violence.

At the heart of THE STAND is the development of Domestic and Family Violence Action Plans (DVAPs). DVAPs are not a one-size-fits-all approach – each one reflects the unique strengths, voices and needs of the community that owns it. It is a practical promise made by organisations, clubs, workplaces, or community groups to take action against violence. It can be a formal policy, a creative project, or a set of shared actions, anything meaningful that breaks the cycle of violence.

” THE STAND is more than a name. It’s a powerful collective movement where communities take ownership and act to end domestic and family violence. We say “Engage to Empower” and that’s what we want to do, empower everybody in the community to take action. Everyone has a role to play in ending violence and now is the time to do it.”

This initiative embodies CatholicCare NT’s belief in the power of community to lead change. By empowering community members to become positive role models, supporting local champions, and promoting respectful relationships, THE STAND encourages individuals to be upstanders, not bystanders.
